Hong Kong International Airport (IATA: HKG) stands on the island of Chek Lap Kok in western Hong Kong and is sometimes called Chek Lap Kok Airport to distinguish it from its predecessor, Kai Tak. It opened in 1998 and is operated by Airport Authority Hong Kong. The airport runs 24 hours a day on three runways, each 3.8 kilometres long, and is the primary hub for Cathay Pacific, Greater Bay Airlines, Hong Kong Airlines, HK Express and Air Hong Kong.

Skytrax ranks Hong Kong No. 4 in its World's Top 100 Airports for 2026, up from No. 6 in 2025; the list is voted by air travellers worldwide in the World Airport Survey. Travel + Leisure readers place it No. 6 among international airports in both the 2025 and 2026 World's Best Awards, with reader scores of 86.22 and 86.52.

Hong Kong International is the world's busiest cargo gateway, having overtaken Memphis in 2010 as the busiest airport by cargo traffic. In 2024 it handled 49.9 million international passengers, ninth in the world, and at the start of that year it employed about 60,000 people. More than 100 airlines fly from here to over 180 cities, and as of March 2026 the airport had direct connections to 220 destinations worldwide. Its passenger terminal was the largest in the world when it opened and remains one of the largest.
