Mayo Clinic Health System

United States

Mayo Clinic Health System is a network of community-based medical facilities owned by Mayo Clinic, focused on care in rural communities in Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin. It was founded in 1992 as Mayo Health System and took its present name in 2011. As of 2022 it ran 16 hospitals, 53 multispecialty clinics and one mobile clinic.

Brand Finance ranks it No. 5 in its Global Top 250 Hospitals 2026, a ranking that measures brand strength. That puts it in the top five of the 250 hospital brands in the list.

The first members were the Decorah Clinic in Iowa and the Wisconsin-based Midelfort Clinic and Luther Hospital; by 1999 the system had affiliates in 55 communities, and as of December 2021 it served 600,000 patients. It is organised into four regions with hubs in Rochester, Mankato, La Crosse and Eau Claire, and patients have access to the specialists of Mayo Clinic in Rochester. In 2021 it launched its first mobile clinic, a 39-foot vehicle with two exam rooms and a laboratory, as well as Mayo Clinic Advanced Care at Home for recovery after surgery. Since August 2021 it has been led by Prathibha Varkey, the first woman of color to head the organisation.
