Bruno Fernandes

Bruno Fernandes, born on 8 September 1994, is a Portuguese attacking midfielder. As of October 2026 he captains Premier League club Manchester United and plays for the Portugal national team. He started his career in Italy with Novara, Udinese and Sampdoria.
France Football and L'Équipe list him as one of the 30 nominees for the 2026 Ballon d'Or, the award for the best men's player of the season. In 2026 he was also named FWA Footballer of the Year, Premier League Player of the Season and PFA Players' Player of the Year.
At Sporting CP from 2017 he won two Taças da Liga and the Taça de Portugal and was twice Primeira Liga Player of the Year; his 33 goals in 2018–19 were a record for a midfielder in Europe in a single season. Manchester United signed him in January 2020 for an initial €55 million, and he has since made more than 300 appearances for the club, winning the FA Cup and the EFL Cup.
He was top scorer of the Europa League in the 2021 and 2025 campaigns, both of which ended in finals for United. His 21 assists earned him the Premier League Playmaker of the Season award and set a record for a single Premier League season. Internationally he played at the 2016 Olympics and has more than 90 senior caps for Portugal since 2017.
