Mfuwe Lodge, the Bushcamp Company

Mfuwe, Zambia

Mfuwe Lodge is a safari lodge in South Luangwa National Park, Zambia, overlooking the Mfuwe Lagoon about five minutes' drive from the park's main gate. It is owned by The Bushcamp Company, which also runs six bush camps along the Luangwa and Kapamba rivers.

Travel + Leisure readers placed it No. 3 in the World's Best Awards 2025 list of the 100 favourite hotels in the world, with a score of 99.73. The magazine says it was above all the team that impressed readers, quoting one who called it "the most well-run property in Africa".

The lodge has 18 chalets, refurbished in 2010, and an adjoining bush spa, and it is open all year. Its best-known feature is a wild mango tree in the central courtyard, around which the lodge was built: from late October to about mid-December a small herd of elephants regularly walks right through the lobby to reach it.
