Hong Kong International (HKG)

Hong Kong International Airport (IATA: HKG) stands on the island of Chek Lap Kok in western Hong Kong and is sometimes called Chek Lap Kok Airport to distinguish it from its predecessor, Kai Tak. It opened in 1998, is operated by Airport Authority Hong Kong and runs 24 hours a day on three runways, each 3.8 kilometres long. It is the primary hub for Cathay Pacific, Greater Bay Airlines, Hong Kong Airlines, HK Express and Air Hong Kong.

Readers of Condé Nast Traveller (UK) have placed it in the world's top ten in two consecutive years of the Readers' Choice Awards: No. 7 in 2025 with a score of 90.60, and No. 8 in 2026 with 89.50. Istanbul leads the 2026 list, ahead of Singapore Changi and Dubai International.

Since 2010, when it overtook Memphis, it has been the world's busiest airport by cargo traffic. In 2024 it handled 49.9 million international passengers, ninth in the world, and more than 100 airlines fly from it to over 180 cities. The airport was built on an artificial island made by levelling Chek Lap Kok and Lam Chau and reclaiming the seabed, adding nearly 1% to Hong Kong's land area; Guinness World Records lists it as the most expensive airport project ever.
