Rome Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci International Airport (IATA: FCO) is in Fiumicino, about 30 km from Rome, and serves Rome, the Vatican and the surrounding Lazio region. No airport in Italy handles more traffic and the main hub of the flag carrier ITA Airways and of Poste Air Cargo. The airport is run by Aeroporti di Roma, part of the transport group Mundys.

Skytrax ranked Fiumicino No. 8 in the World's Top 100 Airports 2025 and No. 7 in 2026. Condé Nast Traveller (UK) readers placed it No. 8 in the Readers' Choice Awards 2025, with a score of 90.00, and No. 10 in 2026; the 2026 article says readers liked Rome Fiumicino "for its shopping".

The airport officially opened on 15 January 1961, although it was already used from August 1960 to relieve Ciampino during the Rome Olympics. It is named after Leonardo da Vinci, and reproductions of his works and inventions are on display. With more than 50 million passengers in 2025, it was the eighth-busiest airport in Europe. Wikipedia also records two terrorist attacks at the airport, in 1973 and 1985.
