Turkish Airlines is the flag carrier of Turkey. Its head office sits on the grounds of Atatürk Airport, while its flights are based at Istanbul Airport in Arnavutköy. It joined Star Alliance on 1 April 2008 and also owns the low-cost subsidiary AJet.

Skytrax placed Turkish Airlines at No. 6 in its World's Top 100 Airlines for 2025 and No. 5 for 2026. AirlineRatings.com listed it No. 10 among full-service airlines for 2025 and No. 7 for 2026. Condé Nast Traveller (UK) readers put it at No. 7 in the Readers' Choice Awards 2026.

According to Wikipedia, no other airline serves as many non-stop destinations from one airport and flies to 131 countries, also more than any other airline; as of June 2024 its network covered 352 destinations including cargo. It was founded on 20 May 1933 as Turkish State Airlines, a department of the Ministry of National Defense, with a first fleet of five small aircraft. Its first jet, a McDonnell Douglas DC-9, arrived in 1967.
