The Peninsula Shanghai

The Peninsula Shanghai is a luxury hotel on the Bund, at No. 32 Zhongshan East First Road, in Shanghai, China. Opened in 2009, it was the second hotel in mainland China for The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, owner of The Peninsula Hotels group.

La Liste places it among the ten hotels that share the top spot in its 2026 world ranking, each scoring 99.5 out of 100. Travel + Leisure ranked it the No. 8 hotel in the world in 2015, and The Independent praises its "impressive old-school hospitality".

The 14-floor hotel has an Art Deco style, with high ceilings in the public spaces and a lobby that fills up for afternoon tea with live music. It sits at the end of the Bund, and across the Huangpu River lies the Pudong skyline with the Oriental Pearl tower, the 632-metre Shanghai Tower and the Shanghai World Financial Centre. Guests can reach staff through PenChat, the hotel's direct messaging service, and a valet box takes deliveries without disturbing the room.
